The Gap

A Gap Employee writes: I used to work at a Gap,  and we always gave the handicapped size fitting room to any moms who wanted to nurse.  It is big enough to comfortably pull in a stroller and it has a built-in bench seat along one wall.  There are no “perks” but it is a quiet place to sit, and you can lock the door and not be bothered.  They don’t necessarily advertise this, but you can go to any Gap in any state and do this.

Westfield Mall – Garden State Plaza  – A reader writes: In Paramus, NJ, the Westfield Mall (which I believe they are now calling Garden State Plaza) has a very nice nursing area by their bathrooms. I had to take my 2 1/2 year old daughter to the bathroom when we were in the mall one day and was pleasantly surprised that there was a whole family bathroom area. The one bathroom (private room) includes one adult-sized toilet and one toddler-sized toilet, which was great (wish they had more than one bathroom, but it’s a start). Outside of there is a fairly large sitting area where families can feed or tend to their kids. What would look like the sink area is actually one long row of inclined changing tables (no need to deal with the fold-down strap-your-kid-in kind). And then I noticed about three rooms that looked like store fitting rooms, with cloth curtains. Guess what? Private nursing areas, with comfy chairs, enough room for stroller and Dad too. My daughter is no longer nursing but I sure wish I had known about this place when she was. Kudos to them for making the whole thing clean and family (not just mom) friendly.

Babies R Us – College Point, NY

Babies R Us – A reader writes:  This location actually has a Family Room that has two small couches and two changing tables. It’s a separate room from the restrooms. Although anyone is allowed to go into the room, I’ve only seen parents with little babies really use this room.
